The house’s bread
This expression is quite funny because it doesn't talk about bread that is made at home at all.
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה קְצָת מַצְחִיק ב ְּעֶצֶם כִּי הוּא לֹא מְדַבֵּר בִּכְלָל עַל לֶחֶם שֶׁמְּכִינִים בַּבַּיִת.
If you go to a restaurant and see on the menu the words "לֶחֶם הַבַּיִת", know that this bread is made on the spot, meaning in the same restaurant you decided to eat at.
אִם אַתֶּם הוֹלְכִים לְמִסְעָדָה וְאַתֶּם רוֹאִים בַּתַּפְרִיט שֶׁכָּתוּב "לֶחֶם הַבַּיִת" דְּעוּ שֶׁמְּכִינִים אֶת הַלֶּחֶם הַזֶּה בַּמָּקוֹם, כְּלוֹמַר בְּאוֹתָהּ מִסְעָדָה שֶׁבָּהּ הֶחְלַטְתֶּם לֶאֱכוֹל.
If a restaurant makes bread on the spot, it is proud of it because it wants to convey the message that it pampers its customers who come to eat at the restaurant and wants them to feel at home.
אִם מִסְעָדָה מְכִינָה לֶחֶם בַּמָּקוֹם הִיא גֵּאָה בָּזֶה כִּי הִיא רוֹצָה לְהַעֲבִיר אֶת הַמֶּסֶר שֶׁהִיא מְפַנֶּקֶת אֶת הַלָּקוֹחוֹת שֶׁבָּאִים לֶאֱכוֹל בַּמִּסְעָדָה וְהִיא רוֹצָה שֶׁיַּרְגִּישׁוּ בַּבַּיִת.
Restaurants tend to make their house bread in different and unique shapes, not in a standard form, meaning they don't copy from another restaurant to leave a unique mark.
הַמִּסְעָדוֹת נוֹהֲגוֹת לְהָכִין אֶת לֶחֶם הַבַּיִת בְּצוּרוֹת שׁוֹנוֹת וּמְיוּחָדוֹת וְלֹא בְּצוּרָה סְטַנְדַּרְטִית, כְּלוֹמַר לֹא מַעֲתִּיקוֹת מִמִּסְעָדָה אַחֶרֶת כְּדֵי לְהַטְבִּיעַ חוֹתָם מְיוּחָד.
