לְהִתְפַּלֵּל
Religious people usually pray several times a day. Observant Jewish individuals wake up in the morning to pray Shacharit (the morning prayer).
אֲנָשִׁי ם דָּתִיִּים נוֹהֲגִים לְהִתְפַּלֵּל מִסְפַּר פְּעָמִים בְּיוֹם. הַיְּהוּדִים הַדָּתִיִּים קָמִים בַּבּוֹקֶר לְהִתְפַּלֵּל אֶת תְּפִילַּת הַשַּׁחֲרִית.
During the time when the Temple in Jerusalem stood, Jews would make pilgrimage to pray there. Today, Jewish people go to synagogues to pray.
בִּזְמַן שֶׁבֵּית הַמִּקְדָּשׁ בִּירוּשָׁלַיִם הָיָה קַיָּם, הַיְּהוּדִים הָיוּ עוֹלִים לָרֶגֶל אֵלָיו כְּדֵי לְהִתְפַּלֵּל שָׁם. הַיּוֹם הַיְּהוּדִים הוֹלְכִים לְהִתְפַּלֵּל בְּבֵית הַכְּנֶסֶת.
Christians pray in church, and Muslims pray in the mosque.
הַנּוֹצְרִים הוֹלְכִים לְהִתְפַּלֵּל בַּכְּנֵסִיָּה וְהַמּוּסְלְמִים בַּמִּסְגָּד.
We also use this infinitive not just in a religious sense, but also to express hope. Sometimes, I may pray for success, for health, and for peace.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בְּשֵׁם הַפֹּּעַל הַזֶּה גַּם לֹא בְּמַשְׁמָעוּת דָּתִית אֶלָּא בְּמַשְׁמָעוּת שֶׁל תִּקְוָה. אָז לִפְעָמִים אֲנִי רוֹצָה לְהִתְפַּלֵּל לְהַצְלָחָה, לִבְרִיאוּת וּלְשָׁלוֹם.
