כִּתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם
KI-TMOL SHILSHOM
Like yesterday and the day before yesterday
The letter כ'at the beginning of the expression = as.
תְּמוֹל = Yesterday
שִׁלְשׁוֹם = The day before yesterday.
הָאוֹת כ' שֶׁבִּתְחִילַּת הַבִּיטּוּי = כְּמוֹ.
תְּמוֹל = אֶתְמוֹל.
שִׁלְשׁוֹם = הַיּוֹם שֶׁלִּפְנֵי אֶתְמוֹל.
When we say that something is 'כִּתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם', we mean to say that it is the same thing, that it has not changed at all.
כְּשֶׁאֲנַחְנוּ אוֹמְרִים עַל מַשֶּׁהוּ 'כִּתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם' אֲנַחְנוּ מִתְכַּוְּנִים לוֹמַר שֶׁהַכֹּל אוֹתוֹ דָּבָר, לֹא הִשְׁתַּנָּה כְּלוּם.
This expression appears in the book of Genesis. Jacob worked for Laban, the father of Rachel and Leah, for many years, but at a certain point he wanted to leave because he saw that Laban's face was "אֵינָם כִּתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם".
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה מוֹפִיעַ בְּסֵפֶר בְּרֵאשִׁית. יַעֲקֹב אָבִינוּ עָבַד אֵצֶל לָבָן, אֲבִיהֶן שֶׁל רָחֵל וְלֵאָה בְּמֶשֶׁךְ שָׁנִים רַבּוֹת, אֲבָל בְּשָׁלָב מְסוּיָּם רָצָה לַעֲזוֹב כִּי רָאָה שֶׁפָּנָיו שֶׁל לָבָן "אֵינָם כִּתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם".
This expression appears in the book of Genesis in a negative way, i.e. Jacob had felt that Laban was not treating him as he had in the past.
הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה מוֹפִיעַ בְּסֶפֶר בְּרֵאשִׁית עַל דֶּרֶךְ הַשְּׁלִילָה, כְּלוֹמַר יַעֲקֹב הִרְגִּישׁ שֶׁלָּבָן לֹא מִתְנַהֵג אֵלָיו כְּפִי שֶׁהִתְנַהֵג בֶּעָבָר.
