Engraved on his flag
We use this expression metaphorically when we want to say that a certain individual or group behaves according to specific rules that they have decided are important to them, or they have chosen one goal that is significant to them and are doing everything to achieve it.
אֲנַחְנוּ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁים בַּבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה כְּמֵטָאפוֹרָה כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲנַחְנוּ רוֹצִים לְהַגִּיד שֶׁאָדָם מְסוּיָּם אוֹ קְבוּצָה מְסוּיֶּמֶת מִתְנַהֲגִים עפ"י כְּלָלִים מְסוּיָּמִים שֶׁהֵם הֶחְלִיטוּ שֶׁהֵם חֲשׁוּבִים עֲבוּרָם אוֹ שֶׁהֵם הֶחֱלִיטוּ עַל מַטָּרָה אַחַת שֶׁהִיא חֲשׁוּבָה לָהֶם וְהֵם עוֹשִׂים הַכֹּל כְּדֵי לְהַשִּׂיג אוֹתָהּ.
For example: The party engraved on its flag the advancement of social justice and equal opportunities. This means that the party will do everything to create a situation where all people have the same rights and opportunities to fulfill themselves.
לְמָשָׁל: הַמִּפְלָגָה חָרְתָה עַל דִּגְלָהּ לְקַדֵּם צֶדֶק חֶבְרָתִי וְשִׁוְיוֹן הִזְדַּמְּנוּיוֹת. כְּלוֹמַר הַמִּפְלָגָה הַזֹּאת תַּעֲשֶׂה הַכֹּל כְּדֵי לִיצוֹר מַצָּב שֶׁבּוֹ לְכָל בְּנֵי הָאָדָם יֵשׁ אֶת אוֹתָן זְכוּיוֹת וְאוֹתָן הָאֶפְשָׁרוּיוֹת לְמַמֵּשׁ אֶת עַצְמָם.
Another example: The company engraved on its flag the topic of sustainability and environmental protection. This means that the company will use fewer single-use products and perhaps adopt electric vehicles instead of ones that emit gases that harm the environment.
דּוּגְמָא אַחֶרֶת: הַחֶבְרָה חָרְתָה עַל דִּגְלָהּ אֶת נוֹשֵׂא הַקַּיָּמוּת וּשְׁמִירָה עַל אֵיכוּת הַסְּבִיבָה. כְּלוֹמַר הַחֶבְרָה הַזֹּאת תִּשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ בְּפָחוֹת כֵּלִים חַד פַּעֲמִיִיםוְאוּלַי גַּם בִּרְכָבִים חַשְׁמַלִּיִּים בִּמְקוֹם בִּרְכָבִים שֶׁפּוֹלְטִים גַּזִּים שֶׁמְּזַהֲמִים אֶת הַסְּבִיבָה.
One more example: The school engraved on its flag the importance of fostering curiosity and active learning. This means that the school will use fewer outdated methods of lectures and passive material delivery and will implement more innovative learning methods, where the students actively participate in the learning process.
וְעוֹד דּוּגְמָא: בֵּית הַסֵּפֶר חָרַת עַל דִּגְלוֹ אֶת הַחֲשִׁיבוּת שֶׁל טִיפּוּחַ סַקְרָנוּת וּלְמִידָה פְּעִילָה. כְּלוֹמַר בֵּית הַסֵּפֶר יִשְׁתַּמֵּשׁ פָּחוֹת בְּשִׁיטוֹת שֶׁל הַרְצָאָה וְהַעֲבָרַת חוֹמֶר בְּצוּרָה מְיוּשֶּׁנֶת כַּאֲשֶׁר הַתַּלְמִידִים פָּאסִיבִיִּים וְיַפְעִיל שִׁיטוֹת לְמִידָה יוֹתֵר חַדְשָׁנִיּוֹת שֶׁבָּהֶן הַתַּלְמִידִים לוֹקְחִים חֵלֶק פָּעִיל בְּתַהֲלִיךְ הַלְּמִידָה.
