The root of the word מִטְבָּח (kitchen) is ט.ב.ח. The word 'טָבַּח' means “cook” or “chef”—the person who prepares the food—and the מִטְבָּחis the room where we prepare food.
שׁוֹרֶשׁ הַמִּילָּה מִטְבָּח הוּא ט.ב.ח.
הַטָּבַּח הוּא הַשֶּׁף. הוּא זֶה שֶׁמֵּכִין אֶת הָאוֹכֶל וְהַמִּטְבָּח הוּא הַחֶדֶר שֶׁבּוֹ אֲנַחְנוּ מְכִינִים אֶת הָאוֹכֶל.
Eliezer Ben-Yehuda coined this word using the pattern 'miktal'. A grammatical pattern is like a template into which we insert a root to create a new meaning. Here are more examples of words in the 'miktal' pattern: midbar (desert), mispar (number), mishpat (sentence/law).

In the kitchen, we have many electric appliances that help us prepare food: an oven, a microwave, a refrigerator, and in many kitchens also a dishwasher. We also have kitchen cabinets, where we store our cooking and eating utensils.
בַּמִּטְבָּח יֵשׁ לָנוּ הַרְבֵּה מוּצְרֵי חַשְׁמַל שֶׁבְּעֶזְרָתָם אֲנַחְנוּ מְכִינִים אוֹכֶל: תַּנּוּר אֲפִיָּה, מִיקְרוֹגַל, מְקָרֵר וּבְהַרְבֵּה מִטְבָּחִים גַּם מֵדִיחַ כֵּלִים.
יֵשׁ לָנוּ גַּם אֲרוֹנוֹת מִטְבָּח. בְּתוֹכָם אֲנַחְנוּ שָׂמִים אֶת כְּלֵי הָאוֹכֶל וְהַבִּישּׁוּל.
In the past, there was a chauvinistic expression: “A woman’s place is in the kitchen.” This phrase implied that a woman should stay at home, raise the children, and cook. But today we know that this is absolutely not the case, and anyone who still believes it is not only considered chauvinistic but also holds outdated views.
בֶּעָבָר, הָיָה בִּיטּוּי שׁוֹבִינִיסְטִי: "מְקוֹמָהּ שֶׁל הָאִישָּׁה בַּמִּטְבָּח". הַבִּיטּוּי הַזֶּה מַשְׁמָעוּתוֹ שֶׁהָאִישָּׁה צְרִיכָה לְהִשָּׁאֵר בַּבַּיִת, לְגַדֵּל אֶת הַיְּלָדִים וּלְבַשֵּׁל אוֹכֶל. אֲבָל הַיּוֹם, אֲנַחְנוּ יוֹדְעִים, שֶׁזֶּה מַמָּשׁ לֹא כָּךְ וּמִי שֶׁמַּאֲמִין בָּזֶה נֶחְשָׁב לֹא רַק לְשׁוֹבִינְסְט אֶלָּא גַּם לְבַעַל דֵּעוֹת מְיוּשָּׁנוֹת.

3. Every evening, before I go to bed, I load all the dishes left in the sink into the dishwasher and leave the kitchen clean and tidy.
