Drought
Even those who love summer can’t ignore the damages caused by heat — one of the most serious damages is drought.
גַּם אֵלֶּה שֶׁאוֹהֲבִים אֶת הַקַּיִץ לֹא יְכוֹלִים לְהִתְעַלֵּם מֵהַנְּזָקִים שֶׁל הַחוֹם. אֶחָד מֵהַנְּזָקִים הָאֵלֶּה הוּא בַּצוֹרֶת.
A drought is a situation where it’s very hot and there is no rainfall at all. During a drought, the soil dries out and nothing can grow.
בַּצוֹרֶת הוּא מַצָּב שֶׁבּוֹ גַּם חַם מְאוֹד וְגַם אֵין בִּכְלָל גְּשָׁמִים. בִּתְקוּפָה שֶׁל בַּצוֹרֶת הָאֲדָמָה מִתְיַבֶּשֶׁת וְלֹא צוֹמֵחַ שׁוּם דָּבָר.
Drought affects nearly every aspect of our lives. Without enough rain, we don’t have enough water, vegetables, or fruits, and as a result, their prices rise significantly.
בַּצוֹרֶת מַשְׁפִּיעָה לָנוּ עַל כָּל תְּחוּמֵי הַחַיִּים. אִם יֵשׁ בַּצוֹרֶת אֵין לָנוּ מַסְפִּיק מַיִם, אֵין מַסְפִּיק יְרָקוֹת וּפֵירוֹת וְאָז הַמְּחִירִים שֶׁלָּהֶם עוֹלִים מְאוֹד.
About ten years ago, Israel experienced several years of drought with insufficient rainfall. The Sea of Galilee’s water level dropped, and TV broadcasts featured frequent announcements reminding the public to reduce the use of water.
לִפְנֵי כְּעֶשֶׂר שָׁנִים הָיוּ כַּמָּה שְׁנוֹת בַּצוֹרֶת בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא הָיָה מַסְפִּיק גֶּשֶׁם. מִפְלַס הַכִּנֶּרֶת שֶׁלָּנוּ יַרָד מְאוֹד וּבַטֵּלֵוִיזְיָה הָיוּ הַרְבֵּה פִּרְסוֹמוֹת שֶׁמַּזְכִּירוֹת לַצִּיבּוּר שֶׁצָּרִיךְ לַחֲסוֹךְ בְּמַיִם.
